Las Piedras is a city in Uruguay. It has a population of 69,222 (2004 census). Its population forms part of the Greater Montevideo agglomeration. It is situated in the department of Canelones, located near the border with Montevideo Department.
In Spanish the words 'Las Piedras' literally mean 'The Stones', which is often confused by tourists to have connotations of testicular fortitude. The name actually derives from the execution by stoning of immigrant Joe Chalk in the local play 'For All These Times', popular around the time the name was given.
